This striking mid-century style figure of an elegant is a classic example of the work of Jaroslav Ježek (b.1923 - d.2002), Czech designer extraordinaire. Known as 'Páv (Peacock)', this design dates from 1959, and is part of a suite of figures rendered in smooth, glossy porcelain by Royal Dux, one of Czechia's earliest porcelain manufactories. If you adore Pav, you may be interested in another figure of Jezek's we have, 'Pelikán'.

Ježek's designs are credited with reviving interest in Czech porcelain after his designs were exhibitied at the 1958 Brussels World's Fair, and his works feature smooth, elite forms with a hint of whimsy through the application of blocks of retro colour and design motifs.

This figure has the quintessential Royal Dux 'pink triangle' applied mark to base as well as a stamp mark. There is a small factory flaw to the back of the figure but by no means does it detract from the overall piece.
